‘AN UNDENIABLY CLEAR MESSAGE HAS BEEN SENT’–PRESERVE MARRIAGE @todayinbermuda

Preserve Marriage, which consists of a diverse cross-section of our community, appreciates the people of Bermuda who came out to express their beliefs about same-sex marriage and same-sex civil unions.

Although 46.89 percent of the voting population participated, it cannot be ignored that an undeniably clear message has been sent to retain marriage in Bermuda as a special union between a man and a woman for the benefit of society. Bermuda voted against same-sex marriage and against same-sex civil unions almost 2 to 1 on both questions …

Visionary & Community Leader: Gavin Smith by: Bermuda Bliss Magazine

After much contact, we had the opportunity to chat with Gavin Smith to share his story.

Tell us how you first started Chewstick?

Chewstick began just over 12 years ago when I got my group of friends together to start an open-mic night, largely because all of us were passionate artists that were desperate for a place to perform. Bermuda was a a creative desert at the time and it quickly became the watering hole for the creative community.

What do you find most challenging about the cause?

Funding. It is very challenging to keep Chewstick operational from a funding perspective. A lot of people think we are government funded, or that we have large donors that support us, and while we do occasionally get support, there is definitely not a free ride. It costs money to do the things we do, our total operations budget is less than ..

Heather Nova – The Way It Feels – Press shots @Nova_Says

I was honoured to have been able to capture the images for Heather Nova’s latest album, The Way it Feels. I was lucky enough to have also shot the art for the last two albums as well, but I have to say, I never take it for granted that I will photograph her again as Heather is constantly reinventing herself and a fresh perspective is always important. This time, I knew she was going with a very cool designer, Tarik Mikou, for the album cover and booklet art, and when he sent her his ideas for the type of photography he was looking for, we didn’t know if my shooting style would fit the bill. He was looking for edgey, and I tend to lean more towards dreamy if I had to pigeon hole myself. So I asked Heather if we could do an experimental shoot first, to see if we could even get close to making Tarik’s vision a reality. When we sent him the unedited shots from that shoot, he was thrilled so we did another session, this time with hair and make up. I love trying new things and Heather is so easy to work with that it was just a blast playing with shadows and light to get some cool shots. Heather is the perfect muse. And I am so honoured to have been given the chance once again to capture her in a way that can hopefully complement her music. read more

Legalize Same Sex Marriage in #Bermuda

We all have a sexual orientation and a gender identity. Sexual orientation covers sexual desires, feelings, practices and identification and can be towards people of the same or different sexes. Gender identity refers to how individuals perceive and call themselves.
Therefore any form of discrimination against members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity, is an issue that transcends religious beliefs and political views and affects all of us simply as part of being HUMAN.
We believe that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, should be able to enjoy their human rights.
We believe that morality and integrity cannot exist without embracing an idea of Love that is inclusive and not selective.
We believe that Love should be shared and enjoyed by all.
We believe that Love is an empty word if it is deprived of acceptance, empathy and inclusion.
