Rowan Vickers is a Bermudian actor, theatre director, and teacher. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School (Group 44), and has also completed Shakespeare courses at Rose Bruford College (TWELFTH NIGHT, 2009) and The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (TROILUS AND CRESSIDA, 2010). While at Juilliard, Rowan was a part of film projects with G44; he also produced and featured in a studio production of Kenneth Lonergan’s THIS IS OUR YOUTH, and was the recipient of the Cecille Weber and Rodgers Memorial Scholarships.
Since graduating Juilliard in 2015, Rowan has been part of productions and developing plays with Second Stage (Broadway), New York Theatre Workshop, The New Group, Roundabout, Atlantic Theater Company, Transport Group, The Playwright’s Realm, Primary Stages, The California Shakespeare Theatre, The Stratford Festival (Canada), Paper Mill Playhouse, Studio Theatre (D.C.), The PIT, Alliance Theatre, and Santa Cruz Shakespeare.
Notable productions include understudying Chris Evans and Michael Cera in the Tony Award Nominated Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s LOBBY HERO (Second Stage/directed by Trip Cullman/Best Revival Tony Nom.); The Obie Award winning Off-Broadway revivals of William Inge’s PICNIC and COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA (Transport Group/directed by Jack Cummings III/Best Revival Obie Award, Best Revival Drama Desk Nom.); The World Premiere of Nathan Alan Davis’ NAT TURNER IN JERUSALEM (New York Theatre Workshop/directed by Megan Sandberg-Zakian); The New York Premiere of Justin Kuritzke’s THE SENSUALITY PARTY (The New Group/directed by Danya Taymor); BAD JEWS (Studio Theatre, DC/directed by Serge Seiden/Best Featured Actor in a Play DC Theater Arts Award) & MEASURE FOR MEASURE (California Shakespeare Theatre/directed by Tyne Rafaeli).
Rowan’s TV/Film projects include working opposite Rebecca Ferguson in SILO (Apple TV+/AMC, Upcoming May ‘23); LAW AND ORDER: SVU (NBC); INSTINCT (Opposite Alan Cumming and Danny Burstein, CBS); MAYDAY (Discovery); 18 ACTORS (G44/Juilliard); THREE DATES (G44/Juilliard); LABOR, LIES AND MURDER (Lifetime).
In 2019, Rowan founded Venture Theatre, based in Bermuda. Venture’s mission is to bring international theatre artists together in an effort to stage classic and contemporary plays for a Bermudian audience. Rowan directed The company’s inaugural Production of Tennessee Williams’ THE GLASS MENAGERIE, which was featured in the 45th Annual Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts. Upcoming, Rowan will be directing an original adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s GHOSTS – January, 2024.
Venture also provides outreach programming for Bermudian students. Since 2020 Rowan has helmed consecutive Drama Summer Intensives, as well as teaching acting/scene study. In 2021, Rowan directed A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (2021) with Venture’s first youth ensemble. Up next, Rowan will direct THE MACBETH PROJECT with the youth ensemble – August 2023.
