Sir Ben Ainslie’s Land Rover BAR challenge did its best to milk the untapped British market, but came up short. The Kiwis were preaching to the converted, while moneybags Oracle Team USA had their campaign end in humiliation and a dwindling American audience.
The Cup can be impenetrable at times. Adorned with corporate sponsorship, to the sceptic it is little more than a billionaire’s plaything …”
Emirates Team New Zealand won the America’s Cup by a score of 7 to 1 and will defend the Auld Mug in the 36th America’s Cup. It was Oracle’s second defense of the Cup, four years after its first successful defense.
The America’s Cup was means to be a boost for Bermuda’s economy but workers at the event’s official hotel have been told there’s not enough work for them because it’s not full.
The country may be a playground for the rich and famous – but everyday Bermudiansfear the benefit from hosting the Cup will not be the plan that was sold to them.

The 2017 Heritage Month Theme is a celebration of Bermudian sporting heroes and Bermuda’s favourite sports and games. More than simply a past-time for children, sport has always been an opportunity for demonstrating determination, teaching teamwork, and exemplifying excellence. Whether you reflect on Bermuda’s nautical beginnings and current historic hosting of the America’s Cup, if you are a fan of football, or if you hit sixes at cricket, there is no denying the passion that sport inspires. Even amateur marble players, rope jumpers, and traditional game participants are part of the storied legacy of Bermuda’s sports. From the fierce loyalty to Cup Match teams, to the rallying unity to support a Bermudian Olympian, Bermuda has continued to build a sporting heritage to be proud of.

Bermuda Day is to be tied to a fixed date. The holiday will now be held on the last Friday in May rather than May 24.
Zane DeSilva, the Minister of Social Development and Sport, said the change would mean the holiday would be celebrated over a long weekend rather than sometimes falling on a weekday. Mr DeSilva told The Royal Gazette: “This will enable people to plan a little better. There has always been a complaint that the absentee rate for schoolchildren and employees is higher when the holiday is celebrated during the week. We also feel that with this change there can be more planning with regard to the parade.” source: bermuda-online.org/pubhols.htm
