The event got a nice write-up in the New York Post!
This Wyclef Jean – Rachel Brown duet was a small part of history relived.
Wyclef’s rise to stardom was with the Fugees a Haitian-American hip-hop group that formed in the mid-1990s. They gained attention for their cover versions of old favorites, with the group’s reinterpretations of “No Woman No Cry” and “Killing Me Softly with His Song” becoming massive hits. The aforementioned songs were part of The Score (1996), which became one of the biggest hits of 1996 and one of the best-selling hip-hop albums of all time. The Score went multi-platinum and had Grammy-winning success. The group disbanded in 1997. In 2007, MTV ranked them the 9th greatest Hip-hop group of all time.
The other two members of the trio were the amazing Lauryn Hill, and rapper Pras Michel. “Fugees” derives from the term refugee.
