Google Chairman Eric Schmidt Defends Tax Dodge: ‘It’s Called Capitalism’
Google’s chairman says he is “proud” of the way his company avoids paying taxes.
“It’s called capitalism,” Eric Schmidt told Bloomberg in a Wednesday article. “We are proudly capitalistic. I’m not confused about this.”
“We pay lots of taxes; we pay them in the legally prescribed ways,” he said. “I am very proud of the structure that we set up. We did it based on the incentives that the governments offered us to operate.”

Joy is a popular Bermuda musician. Her culturally diverse background is reflected in the range of her musical tastes – from rock to country, gospel, jazz and opera. Bermuda is a constant source for Joy. Spittal Pond Nature Reserve offers tranquility and natural beauty, giving Joy a chance to work on her songwriting. Rock Island Coffee is one of her favorite places to go because “all walks of life come here.” The walls of the coffee shop are filled with colourful Bermudian art, sparking the imaginations of all who visit. Rock Island roasts its own coffee, too. “If you’re into coffee, this is the place,” Joy says. “In the wintertime, you can get an eggnog latte.” She recommends you check out the bulleting board here to see what events are happening on the island. Joy loves wandering amidst the seaside caves at Admiralty House. “There’s so much more than just the beach,” she says. For lunch, she recommends the island favorite, Art Mel’s, where you can dig into a giant fish sandwich.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, holiday or otherwise, so I wanted to share it with you! Wishing you a very happy holiday season (and New Year!) xo Rachel

Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town is a 1970 stop motion television special, made by Rankin-Bass. The models carved were from wood (as with most Rankin-Bass specials).
Arthur Rankin, Jr. (born July 19, 1924) is an American-born, Bermudian director, producer and writer.
Santa Claus is Coming To Town – Lyrics
You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He’s making a list
And checking it twice
Gonna find out Who’s naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows when you’re awake
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Political parody from the ever popular Bermemes regarding the PLP political broadcast ‘Both Ways OBA!’
Bermemes launches the new “political party” NPP! (The National Puppet party) … and like any good political party does not miss the chance to plug for their aceboy @exist270
Ay buh… We guys a tiyad uv de Bermewjin politikul pardees. Wuh starting our own. De pardees shoulda hired ya boy exist.multimedia as campaign manajah. Boasty. VOTE FA DE NPP IN 2012!
A recent comment on the Bermemes facebook page already sheds doubts on this new ‘political force’ that is taking the Bermuda Isles by storm.
I have issues with the National Puppet Party. Who’s got their hands in it? Who’s really pulling the strings and are they really speaking for themselves?” – Chris Gibbons
Who Will Decide Your Future? The OBA call for an unelected Cuts and Pain Commission to decide what government services will be cut. Why won’t the OBA tell voters exactly what they will cut?
We Are Not Daft. On December 17th, send them a message. Tell them that we are not daft and we will not be tricked.
OBA: Stuck in Reverse. The OBA car is stuck in reverse because it is full of old UBP parts.
Both Ways OBA! The OBA wants to be all things to all people – because they’ll do anything to gain power. Ask yourself, what is the OBA really all about?
The OBA’s Fairy Tale. The One Bermuda Alliance is trying to trick you into believing that they can increase spending and cut taxes to the tune of $500 million and magically balance the budget. But, they won’t tell us what they’re going to cut! They’re not being honest with you.
So Much Things to Say. OBA TV advert shows businesses that are open as empty buildings.
Standing Strong for Bermudians. The PLP is Standing Strong for Bermudians in these tough economic times. Our investments in infrastructure are saving jobs. FutureCare is helping our seniors afford doctor’s visits and prescription drugs. The EEZ is helping small businesses get off the ground and create jobs. And, DayCare is providing quality childcare and opportunities for parents to pursue their dreams.
Premier Paula Cox: We Choose Investment. There are two approaches to dealing with debt: one is austerity, the other is investment. We choose to stand strong for Bermudians during these difficult times for the global economy.
The Choice. In the next general election, we have a choice between a PLP that stands strong for Bermudians during tough times and an OBA that offers no ideas and no solutions.
Are You Feelin’ It? Who is Craig Cannonier hanging out with?
