Sunday is Gloomy, My hours are slumberless, Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless, Little white flowers will never awaken you, Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you, Angels have no thought of ever returning you, Would they be angry if I thought of joining you, Gloomy Sunday
Gloomy is Sunday, with shadows I spend it all, My heart and I have decided to end it all, Soon there’ll be candles and prayers that are said, I know, but let them not weep, let them know that I’m glad to go, Death is no dream for in death I’m caressing you, With the last breath of my soul I’ll be blessing you Gloomy Sunday
Dreaming, I was only dreaming, I wake and I find you asleep in the deep of my heart … dear, Darling I hope that my dream never haunted you, My heart is telling you how much I wanted you, Gloomy Sunday
“Gloomy Sunday” is a song composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933, as “Vége a világnak” (“End of the world”). Lyrics were written by László Jávor, and in his version the song was retitled “Szomorú vasárnap” (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈsomoruː ˈvɒʃaːrnɒp]) (“Sad Sunday”). The song was first recorded in Hungarian by Pál Kalmárin 1935 and first recorded in English by Hal Kemp in 1936, with lyrics by Sam M. Lewis, and was recorded the same year by Paul Robeson, with lyrics by Desmond Carter. It became well known throughout much of the English-speaking world after the release of a version by Billie Holiday in 1941. Lewis’s lyrics referred to suicide, and the record label described it as the “Hungarian Suicide Song”. There is a recurring urban legend that claims that many people committed suicide with this song playing.
Rezső composed the song while living in Paris, in an attempt to become established as a songwriter in late 1932. The original musical composition was a piano melody in C-minor, with the lyrics being sung over it. Seress wrote the song at the time of the Great Depression and increasing fascist influence in the writer’s native Hungary, although sources differ as to the degree to which his song was motivated by personal melancholy rather than concerns about the future of the world. The basis of Seress’s lyrics is a reproach to the injustices of man, with a prayer to God to have mercy on the modern world and the people who perpetrate evil. There are some suggestions that the words of “Vége a világnak” were in fact not written until World War II itself and not copyrighted until 1946. “THE FINAL GIRL” a film by Todd Verow.
Starring: Wendy Delorme, Brenda Velez, Judy Minx, Veronique Lindenberg and Pascale Ourbih.
“Director Todd Verow’s sultry mystery takes viewers on an eerie and captivating journey through the psyches of three Parisian women whose paths converge around a vanished fourth. Combining raw documentary footage of the French capital, cryptic dialogue, and atmospheric music, the film seduces viewers, leaving them just as intrigued by the enigma of a missing woman as the film’s main characters. Like the best films of David Lynch or the French New Wave, The Final Girl presents a dreamlike vision that lingers long after the credits roll.” www.bangorfilms.com
Trailer 2 features the song “RIDE” by Heather Nova. Four of her songs are featured in the film among them “Ride” and “Let’s Not Talk About Love.”Todd Verow: “Heather and I went to Rhode Island School of Design together, so we’ve known each other for a really long time. By chance, she happened to get in touch with me and say, “When are you going to use some of my music for one of your movies?” It was that random. I really do like her music, and I thought it would be perfect for this movie. She sent me a whole bunch of stuff, and I picked these songs because these lyrics related to this story. I really like her music, and I like her—because she’s so feminine, so sexual, and so unapologetically sexual. The thing I found in a lot of lesbian movies is that they have a hard rock soundtrack, and I wanted something female-sexual. The music and her songs are a third character.”
The First single from Heather’s new album “300 Days At Sea” , out May 27th , it was recorded in Bermuda using only Solar power.
