I guess you’ve heard about the Bermuda triangle
There’s something going on
Nobody seems to know just what it is
And the airforce won’t let on
It might be hole down in the ocean
Yeah or a fog that won’t let go
It might be some crazy people talking
Or somebody that we ought to know
Down in Bermuda, the pale blue sea
Way down in the triangle, it’s easy to believe
Now here’s one
You see strange shapes in moonlight
And shadows in the night
They said that wingtip seemed to brush their faces
And strangers stole their sight
Way down in the triangle
Where the sea was smooth as glass
Giving you one answer to a question
That you never thought you’d ask
Ah down in Bermuda, in the pale blue sea
Way down in Bermuda, yeah it’s easy to believe
Down in the triangle, it’s easy to believe
They came from Galveston
They came from New Orleans
And then from Bloomington, and Delaware
The used St. Petersburg, they came from Tampa
And then from Mexico, it doesn’t matter where
They all completely share,
All of those ships and planes,
A great big mystery that cannot be explained,
Down in Bermuda, in the pale blue sea
Your feeling safe in your harbour
And everything seems certain
Right next to Palm Beach and Key Biscane
Behind a velvet curtain
But then the moon goes grey with worry
And the sea turns a pale white
You better believe something strange is going on tonight
Down in Bermuda, ah, the pale blue sea
Bermuda Triangle, yeah, it’s easy to believe
Down in the Triangle, it’s easy to believe
They came from Galveston
They came from New Orleans
And then from Bloomington, and Delaware
Bermuda, the pale blue sea

Why houses in #Bermuda have white stepped roofs @BBCNews

92849627_b62j89

“The North Atlantic island of Bermuda has no fresh-water springs, rivers or lakes. So how did humans ever settle there? The secret is in the design of their houses, and particularly the white stepped roof which is still in use 400 years after it was first introduced.

A British visitor to Bermuda will feel instantly at home, even if the weather is far warmer and sunnier than anything imaginable on the British Isles. Many of the island’s 60,000 residents live in limestone cottages painted in pastel colours of a design familiar from British towns or villages.

But white roofs? With steps? Where did they come from? It turns out they are designed this way to harvest rain. The steps slow down heavy rainfall helping the gutters to collect the water and store it in a tank under the house …”

#Bermuda walkers asked to stop stacking rocks @BBCNews

92885116_rockpile2

Nature experts in Bermuda have urged people to stop prising rocks from the ground to make artfully arranged piles as it’s disturbing the habitat of a critically endangered lizard. Conservationists say rock stacking – also called rock or stone balancing – is an increasing problem in the Spittal Pond Nature Reserve. It’s one of the last remaining homes of the rare Bermuda skink which lives among the rocks. The reserve is a “crucial habitat for its future on the island”, according to Andrew Dobson, president of the Bermuda Audubon Society.

#Bermuda Airport Redevelopment Project (ARP) @dciBermuda

Bermuda needs a new passenger terminal at the L. F. Wade International Airport. The short video “The Best Option For Bermuda” shows why the bilateral Government-to-Government approach with a AAA-rated country is the best option for Bermuda.

The Most Polite People In The World Are In #Bermuda ! @buzzbishop

“Hello, how are you?,” the border official at the airport security greeted us. We thought she was just being friendly, that our faces exhausted from the long night of travel to the island needed a little pick me up.

We soon found out she wasn’t being particularly polite to just us, but that everyone in Bermuda is polite. “Hello, how are you?” is not just a platitude that rolls out in every greeting, but a genuine wish shared between islanders.

If you think Canadians are polite, you haven’t been to Bermuda!

“Hello, how are you?,” the woman greeted the …

The Defining Story of #Bermuda ‘s Great Gunpowder Plot 1775: The American Connection and Other Selected Highlights Including the Attack on Washington (1814)

August 14th, 1775 was a hot, humid, moonlit night. The British Governor of Bermuda was sound asleep in his bed. The Royal Gunpowder Magazine was unguarded. It made a tempting target. The American Rebels needed gunpowder. The Bermudians needed provisions. A secret deal was done. A covert band of Bermudians carried out the theft, a potentially treasonous crime against the British Crown. But it worked. It was a masterpiece of deception, planning and execution. To the British Governor it was “a most heinous and attrocious crime” and his worst nightmare. To General Washington it was a gift from heaven.

This is a dramatic story of intrigue, manipulation, high risk and great danger. In his fascinating new book, Bermudian Historian and Author Michael G. Marsh painstakingly unravels the truth about Bermuda’s GREAT GUNPOWDER PLOT of 1775.

In this presentation at the BUEI Michael sifts through the historical records and delivers a special, illustrated summary of this hair-raising tale of midnight skulduggery and daring and we finally discover what actually transpired.

The Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition takes place on Labor Day weekend at Horseshoe Bay. This is not your ordinary sand castle building on the beach. These are serious sculptures, many are even life size. Most participants create a team of friends, and families also enter together.

5 Things That Are Different In #Bermuda @meganschmit @TheOdyssey

Most of us envision the islander life as full of fruity drinks, tan lines, and the luxurious amenities of a resort. It’s hard to imagine growing up in the place people vacation, and we may assume an island like Bermuda has one culture and one culture only: tourism.

But under the layers of travel brochures and souvenir shops, I discovered just how singular Bermudian culture is—and it’s even more vibrant and diverse than we can gather from just staying at a beach club.

Here are five things that I learned about Bermuda:

1. Beer pong isn’t just a frat party pastime—it’s a sport.

Yes, you read that right. Take a peek into Docksider, a local bar, on Tuesday nights and you’ll see a tournament of competitive beer pong taking place. Side note: My friend and I made it to the third round!

2. Don’t ever call a moped, a moped.

Or a scooter. It’s a bike or a blade. I made the mistake and …
