Eric Bean Jr – Choreography Sample 2012 @JariccoDance

The following is a sample of work that I’ve created over the last year. The large group piece titled “The Fields of Mars” is a work in progress of a larger work I hope to create in the near future. The duet, men’s trio and girls quartet are sections from a full length work titled “Return to Paradise” which premiered this past August (2011) in Bermuda. The sections were re staged on different dancers and presented at the Koresh Artists Showcases in Philadelphia, PA. – Eric Bean Jr

The Harlem Shake is an Internet meme in the form of a video of people performing a skit to the song Harlem Shake. Being a meme, the video was replicated using the same concept by many people, which eventually led to it becoming viral in early February 2013, with thousands of “Harlem Shake” videos being made and uploaded to YouTube every day.

The form of the meme was established in a video uploaded on February 2 by five teenagers from Queensland, Australia known as The Sunny Coast Skate. The video started a viral trend of people uploading their own “Harlem Shake” videos. The teenagers’ video, in its turn, was a follow-up to a video by a YouTube comedy vlogger named Filthy Frank featuring a part where several costumed people danced to the song Harlem Shake by Baauer.

#Bermuda Gombeys

The Warwick Gombey Troupe have been performing for locals and visitors for decades. Gombeys (pronounced GOM-bays) have been dancing around Bermuda for almost two centuries. A mix of West African, Caribbean and Native North American dances have combined to influence their rhythmic moves.

Gombey

The Gombey is an iconic symbol of Bermuda, this folklife tradition reflecting the island’s blend of African, Native American, Caribbean and British cultures, incorporating them over time into a unique performance art full of colorful and intricate masquerade, dance and drumming.

Dancers are usually male, and perform in groups of 10-30 though in modern times female groups have emerged. The traditions have been passed down orally from one generation to the next within families and the Captains of each troupe determine the direction of the troupe and style that is taught. Thus within troupes there can be found subtle but distinct differences in beats, dances, costumes, headdresses, by which they can each be recognized.
