Blondie in the Water: #Bermuda @kamajowa

As you’ve gathered from my blog posts I love water — rivers, beaches, pools, lakes, and especially Bermuda. I have included many good and bad water adventures in my first novel, Stealing Time, about hurricanes and time travel. You can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, in paperback and other places here! In the meantime join me while I relive a day on the pink sandy beaches of Bermuda.

Two sides of #Bermuda ? — Bermuda Blue

The murder of Isaiah Furbert is another shocking statistic. At 19-years-old he must be the youngest person to die by the gun yet. What I find desperately sad, however, is that the energy shown about the SSM debate is not on show here. Don’t get me wrong, SSM is an extremely important issue and I […]

Have you ever wondered where all the Pantomime characters live when they’re not performing in Pantomimes?

The answer is The Land of Make Believe where they play happily waiting for auditions to come around again. But now a nasty witch has cast a spell and they’ve lost their memories and can’t remember which Pantomime they belong too …. Oh no! But wait! Fairy Honeysuckle has come to the rescue and is taking our heroes through six pantomimes to find out where they belong. However an evil witch and her silly sidekick are determined to thwart her plan…….. Oh no!

Adventure in Pantoland is a fun filled, old fashioned celebration of Pantomime complete with lots of audience participation, traditional characters and some really bad jokes. Seven different storylines are visited including Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Dick Whittington, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White and Cinderella along with the traditional song sheet and silly skit! We even have a Pantomime cow

This Panto has seven principal parts and 7 – 8 Smaller roles plus chorus and dancers:

Feel like a kid again and compete in a sand sculpture competition with pink sand on Horseshoe Bay

The Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition takes place on Labor Day weekend at Horseshoe Bay. This is not your ordinary sand castle building on the beach. These are serious sculptures, many are even life size. Most participants create a team of friends, and families also enter together.

This fun, well organized event takes the better part of a day. Beginning at Horseshoe Bay around 10am, …

5 Things That Are Different In #Bermuda @meganschmit @TheOdyssey

Most of us envision the islander life as full of fruity drinks, tan lines, and the luxurious amenities of a resort. It’s hard to imagine growing up in the place people vacation, and we may assume an island like Bermuda has one culture and one culture only: tourism.

But under the layers of travel brochures and souvenir shops, I discovered just how singular Bermudian culture is—and it’s even more vibrant and diverse than we can gather from just staying at a beach club.

Here are five things that I learned about Bermuda:

1. Beer pong isn’t just a frat party pastime—it’s a sport.

Yes, you read that right. Take a peek into Docksider, a local bar, on Tuesday nights and you’ll see a tournament of competitive beer pong taking place. Side note: My friend and I made it to the third round!

2. Don’t ever call a moped, a moped.

Or a scooter. It’s a bike or a blade. I made the mistake and …

Visionary & Community Leader: Gavin Smith by: Bermuda Bliss Magazine

After much contact, we had the opportunity to chat with Gavin Smith to share his story.

Tell us how you first started Chewstick?

Chewstick began just over 12 years ago when I got my group of friends together to start an open-mic night, largely because all of us were passionate artists that were desperate for a place to perform. Bermuda was a a creative desert at the time and it quickly became the watering hole for the creative community.

What do you find most challenging about the cause?

Funding. It is very challenging to keep Chewstick operational from a funding perspective. A lot of people think we are government funded, or that we have large donors that support us, and while we do occasionally get support, there is definitely not a free ride. It costs money to do the things we do, our total operations budget is less than ..

Legalize Same Sex Marriage in #Bermuda

We all have a sexual orientation and a gender identity. Sexual orientation covers sexual desires, feelings, practices and identification and can be towards people of the same or different sexes. Gender identity refers to how individuals perceive and call themselves.
Therefore any form of discrimination against members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity, is an issue that transcends religious beliefs and political views and affects all of us simply as part of being HUMAN.
We believe that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, should be able to enjoy their human rights.
We believe that morality and integrity cannot exist without embracing an idea of Love that is inclusive and not selective.
We believe that Love should be shared and enjoyed by all.
We believe that Love is an empty word if it is deprived of acceptance, empathy and inclusion.

Panama Papers – Bermuda is different

Hamilton, Bermuda, April 5, 2016

Some of the recent reporting on the “Panama Papers” perpetuates the myth that all offshore financial centres are the same. The fact is: Bermuda is different. While there may be businesses, service providers and lax regulatory environments around the world that enable illegal tax evasion, Bermuda is not one of them. Bermuda is different. Bermuda has an extremely positive global reputation built on transparency, compliance and cooperation—these attributes have been differentiating hallmarks of the jurisdiction for decades. The EU provided a strong endorsement of Bermuda’s robust, mature, and proficient regulatory environment by awarding equivalency with its own EU Solvency II regime. Bermuda is one of just two non-EU countries to be awarded that distinction … Read full article here – Bermuda is different | Panama Papers
