LYRICS
You say you want love You say you want truth You say you want it easy You say you want proof You say you want a fire Always underneath your stove You say you want it tended To guarantee love You say you want grace You say you want absolution You say you want your mind To come up with a solution Well what do you want? Can you tell me again? ‘Cause I can’t hear nothing Through all this pain What was that you said? I’m listening hard And I want to be your confessor Under the stars You say you want peace You say you want a connection You say you wanna never Experience rejection You say you want to see the light Always shining in your eyes You say you want to see the sun Always shining in your skies You say you want an ocean Of understanding at your fingertips You say you want a sweet sweet kiss Always hanging at your lips Well what do you want… I wanna be your ship when you are tossed I wanna be the one to save you at whatever cost I wanna be the one to find you when you are lost I wanna be the one to be there when you’re crying Carry your cross But you say you want love…

I keep a light in the window Dark band on my heart Some days are better than others Mostly I’m falling apart I keep his picture beside me I see the dream in his eyes I watch the light disappearing Into unsettled skies You say the world will be a better place After this war is won You say no sacrifice too great But every soldier is a mother’s son I know he can’t take the killing And how it messes with his soul I know the days are unending When you’re so far from home You say the world will be a better place After this war is won You say no sacrifice too great But every soldier is a mother’s son
I wrote this song during the war in Iraq, but it’s really about all war. Beyond any justification of a war, beyond the cause, there is always immense and tragic loss of life , and the unimaginable grief of thousands of parents. Mothers lose their children whether the war is lost or won, whether a greater good came of the war or not: The loss, the grief, is the same. My heart breaks for the people of Ukraine ??? and I donate to support them. And my heart breaks for all mothers on both sides of any conflict – Heather Nova
From the album “The Jasmine Flower” 2008 Written and performed by Heather Nova
There ain’t no gold In this river That I’ve been washing my hands in forever I know there is hope In these waters But I can’t bring myself to swim When I am drowning In this silence baby let me in Go easy on me baby I was still a child Didn’t get the chance to Feel the world around me I had no time to choose What I chose to do So go easy on me There ain’t no room For things to change When we are both so deeply Stuck in our ways You can’t deny how hard I have tried I changed who I was To put you both first But now I give up I had good intentions And the highest hopes But I know right now It probably doesn’t even show
