Teresa Perozzi vs Christina Hammer – WBO Female Middleweight Championship
Teresa Perozzi, arguably the best female Bermudian boxer of all time, fought against 20-year old Christina Hammer for the WBO female middleweight world title on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 in Riesa, Germany.
In the early rounds Perozzi dictated the high pace of the match and put Hammer under pressure. The young German was able nonetheless to keep cool and counter attack. The opening rounds were even.
The fifth round saw the turning point of the 10 round bout as Hammer got in a number of clear shots which started to slow Perozzi down and the German began to dominate the fight. However the fighter from Bermuda was dangerous every minute. The fight ended with a unanimous win on points for Christina Hammer – the new WBO champion and the youngest German boxing world champion ever. (Translated from http://www.boxen1.com)

As we continue to expand this series to celebrate and support the endeavors of talented artists, our most prolific Brazilian singer/songwriter and volunteer, Fabiana Marcondes, will be featured at our next Griot Session. Fabiana, affectionately called Fabi, whom many Chewstick staff and supporters met during the first Retreat, in March, has become an integral part of our activities. She has not only come through to assist with set up and promotions of our flagship event, the Legendary Open-Mic Jam Session, but has also attended all three retreats and collaborated with a number of our most noted artists. Most recently Fabi was highlighted as the opening act for the Dewhurtz and Flexx’s Griot Session, on Friday November 11th. Here she shared a small preview of what she will be doing at her Griot Session. Sadly, Fabi will be leaving Bermuda to return to her home and her one true love, before the end of December, so that this occasion is bittersweet .. read more

#Bermuda Cedar – How To Make a Beer (Bottle) Opener
A great tool is a joy in the hand and to the mind. This is a short video about making a classic Bermuda Cedar beer (bottle) opener. Each piece takes over 5 hours to make. Selection of material is best where a branch meets the trunk to find the more interesting patterns and knots. Shaping and finishing each uniquely elegant opener is spread out over the course of a week to allow multiple coats of high quality varnish to harden.
